One of the best ways to innovate is to first learn about your customer by observing them using analogous products or services in their own environment. Equipped with rich user data, your user centered design process can hit the ground running. This presentation will review how to plan and conduct contextual interviews and interpret data, closely following Karen Holtzblatt's Contextual Design process. Participants will get firsthand experience at building an affinity diagram, learning how to organize individual insights into high-level takeaways.

Sathya Yesuraja is a Senior User Experience Architect at Thomson Reuters. She participates in the entire UX process from ideation, concepts and strategy, through design and implementation on large scale projects.
Shannon O'Brien is Manager of User Experience Research at Thomson Reuters. She specializes in a wide range of research methodologies along the spectrum of driving design to evaluating design.
