Join us Thursday, February 9th, to hear Kevin Farner of Gomoll Research + Design talk about how contextual inquiries can change design direction, how to gracefully react to recruiting hiccups, and why user research doesn’t just lead to incremental changes. 
In 2011, Kevin collaborated with a client to update their web application. After observing customers using this web application, the unexpected observations sent the project in a new direction. The researchers learned that the end user needed to be mobile.
Kevin’s presentation will walk us through the research and design approach and will highlight both opportunities and potential pitfalls. After attending this event, you will leave with a better understanding of how user research can drive not only UI decisions, but also platform decisions. In addition, you will see how a redesign of multiple platforms at once allows a team to decide which characteristics should be consistent across platforms, and which characteristics should be unique.

Speaker Bio
Kevin Farner is a user experience designer and Director of the Gomoll Research + Design Minnesota office. His focus is on performing user research and taking the findings to craft better experiences for users. This usually manifests itself in terms of software UI, but also can be hardware or 'experiences', e.g. in-store experiences.
Kevin spent 15 years in corporate America managing UX and Product Development teams building internal and customer facing products, and has spent the last four years in consulting. He has worked on products in several industries including financial services, education, healthcare, and consumer retail.
